Rule #6: All Good Things with Time

Cabinetry by Venegas & Company

I’m writing about my “House Rules” this week - a few things I want to keep in mind when it comes to creating our future home.

One thing I’m really trying to think through before we start our house are the layers involved in achieving the look I want. We won’t be able to afford the exact finishes or details that I’d love to have all at once. So we’re assessing what we invest in first - structure, space, windows, and what we’ll build or change over time - finishes and architectural details like mouldings and millwork.

Also, with the decor we’ll need to build it over time to create the layers that imbue good design. It’ll be a slow approach - no overnight HGTV makeover for me, but rather a collected, hard-earned look filled with things we love.
