Eclectic Design

Design by Rita Konig

While “eclectic” is usually considered one style of decorating, I think design as a whole has become more eclectic. Eclectic layers are infused into all styles, blurring the lines between traditional and modern, country and urban.  I think there are a lot of reasons for this:

-Designers and decorators love so many beautiful things - why not bring them all together?

-There is such an overload of inspiration (online resources like blogs, pinterest, or online shopping, a multitude of print books and magazines, easier access to materials, and global influences) How could you restrain yourself from a collected room full of lovely (though not necessarily matched) things.

- A “collected” look is what we’re aiming for now.  With so much in our world that is fast, temporary, or disposable, we want homes that communicate the comfort of age, nostalgia and patina.

This is a great thing, too, because it means you can live with what you love.  Today I’m sharing the lovely work of Rita Konig, founder of the fondly remembered Domino magazine.  Enjoy!
