Holiday Outfits
One thing I love about this time of the year is the excuse to get dressed up! I love seeing the stores filled with clothes that are shiny, or glittery, and in all sorts of rich colours. So I’m going to create a series of posts with various holiday outfits.
This may be groundbreaking news to some, but Regina is not the fashion capital of the world, and so most of these stores are nowhere...

...yet I will rejoice in the LORD
I love the passage I posted below. It’s one that I know I will likely lean on often as Sean and I delve into him being a farmer. But both literally and figuratively (real crops or not) the passage is true and pertinent to life; when there seems to be nothing to rejoice about, we can still praise God. A paradox for sure - it may seem foolish, or illogical, but I know this to be true in my...

Christmas Decor Wrap-up (Functional Decor)
Wrapping up this series of posts on Christmas decorating, I wanted to share ideas about how to make your home look seasonal and festive using functional stuff around your house. I’m really not into chotchkies - I much prefer to have the stuff you need in your house be pretty and decorative. It tends to keep things less cluttered, and in the end is cheaper than buying decorative but useless...

Swirl of Snowflakes
Snowflakes are an easy and affordable decoration that can be used all around the house, or a craft done with kids to decorate their own rooms. Some paper, scissors, and fishing line is all you need to create a beautiful snowfall!
Martha Stewart Living features a number of ideas on how to use doilies to get your white Christmas.

Storybook Spotlight #4 ("The Snowy Day")
Winter has finally come to Saskatchewan… not something you hear often. Usually it arrives early and stays late. But this year it took its time showing up. All of us enjoyed the warmer weather. However, as December approached many Saskatchewanians were itching for some real snow (more than the scant dustings that had come throughout the fall). Just in time for December (and Christmas!)...

Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland
Having lived in basement suites and apartments since moving away from home, outdoor decorating hasn’t been a priority for me. But one day, when we’re out at the farm, I think Sean and I will have fun decorating the outside. He worked as a landscaper during university so he looks forward to creating a nice outside space of our own.
I picture the little house in the country with...

Light a Candle
I love candles. They’re simple, relatively affordable, can be transformed easily (with a bit of ribbon, a nice container, or some glitter, for example), and do more than just decorate - they create an atmosphere. And here in Saskatchewan the dark winter nights can seem oppressive and bleak. But rather than dreading the dark evening, candles can make it something special and celebratory.

Stockings Hung by the Chimney with Care...
For my family’s Christmas tradition, Christmas Eve was the centre of celebration. Once it was dark we’d always drive around looking at the lights on houses, then come home and feast on snacks and treats while opening our presents and staying up late.
The next morning we’d sleep in and my mom would have a yummy breakfast ready. Then, as a most delightful afterthought we’d...

My Etsy Wishlist...
Last week I shared some of my favourite Etsy purchases. Here are a few of the things I’d love to buy one of these days when the circumstances line up. (i.e. - I have extra money and the Canadian dollar is high!)
Little M’s room has a forest theme, so I’d love a collection of these fun woodland prints from johnwgolden!
I am smitten with the aesthetic of prints like this...

Baubles and Bling
I love that Christmas is so fancy. It’s like your house has an excuse to dress up for a party and wear her finest jewellery. Christmas ornaments are a super easy, usually affordable way to get lots of sparkle and glamour! It may be a bit over done these days, but I don’t care - a collection of shiny Christmas balls in a glass vessel is so easy and so beautiful! I do it every year!...

Parenting Philosophy Breakthrough
In the last 3+ months I’ve received a ridiculously high volume of advice. Some of this advice has consisted of exquisitely-timed pearls of wisdom and encouragement. Some of it has consisted of ludicrous and bizarre information and suggestions. And much of it has been a cloud of confusing opinions, experiences, philosophies, trends, and ideologies. I have no doubt that it has all been...

Storybook Spotlight #3 ("Brown Bear, Brown Bear,...
Little M has a way of making me appreciate books in a new way. It’s interesting to explore which books grab his attention. Of all the books we’ve read so far, “Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See?” by Bill Martin Jr. seems to enrapture him the most.
The bold illustrations, in Eric Carle’s signature style, are great for his little baby brain - high in...

A Welcoming Wreath
I love wreaths! My mom was fabulous at creating a wreath for every season and occasion to go on our door. To me a wreath suggests that the home inside is welcoming and cared for, don’t you think? Plus I love the changing of seasons, and wreaths are a great way to mark that. Here are a few lovely wreath ideas for this holiday season!
I love how sparkly and intricate these wreaths look!...

Deck the halls with boughs of holly. or spruce. ...
Today we’re talkin’ garland. And not the tacky tinsel-y stuff (Though I have a soft spot in my heart for all that old, sometimes tacky Christmas stuff. Those big, coloured lights are wonderfully nostalgic!)
Garland is great because I think it’s pretty versatile - stretched out on a cabinet or shelf, hung on a wall, framing a window, trimming a house, or decking a hall! And...
